Hey...
It's been pretty much forever since i posted anything worthwhile so i though why not start again.
Just finished my first year of uni and all is looking fairly rosey...i hope. Made a whole bunch of new friends, been hit in the face, started singing and writing songs. So basically a lot of first time experiences which can't be bad...right...?
At the moment I feel stronger about music than ever, but in true me style I'm never completely happy with what I've been writing by myself (lyrically mainly). Kind of sucks as I'd like to think I'm pretty good with words like that, obviously not spoken ones as much as I seem to tangle the important ones sometimes...or just talk shit about beer trolls and goblins*, or how I've just written a killer hook, OR I shout curses as loud as I can in my friends' ears for sheer comic effect...only its not that funny.
That said music seems to flow quite easily when I write music with Vince (a friend of a cousin...who's now a friend). That guy has some serious pipes and lungs and we seem to just sit and come up with all these ideas. We have a whole bunch of ideas for songs and stuff but there are two that I'm super excited about:
1. Uses a lot of delay for a big sound and has a lot of mood and a killer chorus in waiting, it's all there it just needs pulling together.
2. The other started of as like a two/three chord song with two lines or lyrics that just got louder and louder over the course of about a minute. Now though it seems like its going to become this sprawling song with at least three separate parts(!) which has got me chicken skinned :p
It's surprisingly hard not to write something that feels contrived, forced and in no way truely honest...hmmmmmmm >:\
That said I've found a few ideas I kind of like. Wish I could just call up Jesse Lacey and be all "mind writing some lyrics for me?"...
I saw Brand New for the first time in April they were amazing. Pretty much cemented them as one of my favourite bands forever. They only played new stuff which got them booed by "old school" fans I guess you'd call them. I felt almost offended as it was such an urgent set and they ended on Welcome To Bangkok which was just disorientating due to the wall of sound and about 10 people onstage beating on two drum kits in time. It was a pretty fantastic really.
I'm probably about to sugar crash from the amount of lucky charms I had for breakfast. If you read this leave a comment, ask a question, something to let me know someone reads this apart from me.
Anyways it's like 1.15pm I'm gonna go and write some music I think, maybe an update once a week from now on, so as to slowly build hype over my music and the release of an album :p
